To our Eddie Chance Pettee:

In Memory of Eddie I hear Eddie howl. It is a great big thing. and then I can’t tell… Is it Spike, saying to Ed, let’s give her a yell? I sense they are together, along with Roseanne. and then I cry…come rub my hand. Eddie Chance Pettee, always the Big Man. Ed fell from the sky in Atlanta, Jim said he was an alien. A broken hip did not sink his ship. One life after another did Eddie risk, but hardly a meal did he miss. When Ed needed help he did not say meow. His request always came in a powerful howl. As a beach resident, Ed would roam at night Chasing ghost crabs in the sand. Then come in to curl up at my side… his velvet coat on my hand. With his ear sliced from a fight, his doctor said, “It will give him character!” We could always tell what Ed was into. He always made me understand. I hear Eddie’s howl, and then I can’t tell…?? I’ll always remember Eddie The velvet fog, my grey friend. Eddie Chance Pettee, always the Big Man. With love, By D. Pettee
